Streamlined Checkout™ Knowledge Base

UPS
Address Validation

UPS
Shipping Rules
UPS does not ship to P.O. boxes or FPO
addresses. UPS also will charge back
merchants for shipments addressed to address
which UPS does not regard as valid - for
example a zip code that is a mismatch to the
city and state, or in some address which
have a typo or mismatch at the street-level.
Merchants who ship large numbers of orders
through UPS commonly incur thousands of
dollars in UPS charge backs because of
invalid addresses.
UPS Address Validation
Streamlined Checkout has an advanced
customization that automatically validates
if a shoppers address is supported by UPS.
This feature requires the merchant UPS
account be upgraded to support either of
these UPS Online Tools:
■
UPS Address Validation Tool (AV)
■
UPS Extended Address Validation Tool
(XAV), also known as the UPS Street-Level
Address
Validation Tool (SLAV) - this tool is new an in limited
release as of Q4 2007.
How it Works
The UPS Address validator communicates
with the UPS Shipping server and either
returns that the address is a valid UPS
shipping address, or recommends changes to
the postal code to match city and state.
This modification does not allow shoppers to
Continue in checkout if the address is not
valid unless they check a consent
acknowledgement that they understand the
address is not valid and a merchant
representative may follow up with them to
clarify shipping instructions. Invalid
address orders are tracked and a backend
reporting and administrative interface
provides for quick lookup of orders that
need attention. A merchant
notification email is also sent when invalid
address orders occur.
Check with your UPS Account Representative
for upgrades to the UPS tools, and
Streamlined Checkout can be modified to
support this feature.
Street-Level UPS Address Validation
Streamlined Checkout advanced address
validator is now
available to check address validation at the
street level.
Implementation of this option is offered as
a service for Streamlined Checkout™ and
Streamlined Shipper™ merchants. Contact
